Lake Rabun is a gorgeous, twisting 835-acre man made lake tucked away in the northeastern corner of Georiga. It is the third lake in a six-lake series that follows the original course of the Tallulah River. The series starts at the head waters of the Tullulah River with Lake Burton followed by Lake Seed, Lake Rabun, Terrora Lake (at Tallulah Falls), Lake Tugalo, and finally Lake Yonah. The lakes are owned and operated by the Georgia Power Company to generate hydro-electric energy for Georgia's largest city, Atlanta. In the first yeas after their construction this series of lakes were the largest producers of electrity in the state of Georgia. Now, they only provide peak power supply. |
